Installation is the stage where a well-made kitchen is either finished properly or spoiled. Level, plumb and scribed to the wall is the whole job; on an old Cape Town property with out-of-square walls, that takes longer than the manufacturing did.
Some companies supply and install as one contract. Others supply only, and you appoint the fitter. Both work, but they are priced differently. See Kitchen Renovations Cape Town for full-scope work.
Say whether you need supply-and-install or fitting only, and send the kitchen dimensions.

- 1Strip-out. Old kitchen removed, rubble carted, services capped off safely.
- 2First fix. Plumbing and electrical moved or added while the walls are open.
- 3Carcasses. Levelled, fixed to the wall, scribed to any out-of-square surfaces.
- 4Template. Stone is measured off the installed carcasses, then cut off-site. Allow one to two weeks.
- 5Tops and splashback. Fitted, sealed, cut-outs finished.
- 6Second fix. Doors hung and adjusted, appliances connected, handles on.
Kitchen Installation Prices in Cape Town
| Item | Indicative range | What moves it |
|---|---|---|
| Install supplied flat-pack | R1,200 – R2,500 per linear metre | Assembly included. |
| Install custom cupboards | R1,800 – R3,500 per linear metre | More scribing and adjustment. |
| Strip-out and disposal | R3,500 – R12,000 | Charged partly by rubble volume. |
| Countertop installation labour | R500 – R2,000 per m² | Stone needs more hands than laminate. |
| Sink cut-out | R200 – R400 | Undermount in stone costs more. |
| Hob cut-out | R250 – R500 | Depends on the material. |
| Appliance connection | R650 – R2,500 each | Hard-wired items need an electrician. |
| Full install, medium kitchen | R18,000 – R45,000 | Strip-out through to second fix. |
These are indicative market ranges, not a quotation. They are compiled from published South African kitchen pricing to give you a starting point for budgeting. They are not the rate card of any company on this platform.
Supply-and-install puts one company on the hook if something does not fit. Splitting supply from fitting can save money, but it also splits responsibility, and a fitting dispute over a manufacturing error is difficult to resolve.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a kitchen installation take?
Cabinetry usually goes in over two to four days. The stone template then adds one to two weeks before the tops arrive, and second fix is another day or two.
Plan for roughly three weeks between strip-out and a fully working kitchen.
Can I install a kitchen myself?
Flat-pack units are within reach for a competent DIYer. Stone tops are not, and gas or hard-wired electrical connections must be done by a registered person to remain compliant.
Why is the countertop measured only after the cupboards are in?
Because a stone top is cut to the actual installed positions, not the drawing. Templating off the drawing risks a slab that does not fit, and stone cannot be adjusted on site.
Who connects the appliances?
A plumber for the dishwasher and sink, an electrician for hard-wired ovens and hobs, and a registered gas installer for gas hobs. A Certificate of Compliance is required for gas.
